How to look after your jewellery

Copper

Natural Patina-Copper naturally oxidises when exposed to air, sweat, and moisture, shifting from a bright rose-gold hue to a deeper, vintage bronze.Embrace the antique look, or easily restore its original shine using a specialized jewellery polishing cloth or a mild acidic mixture (like lemon juice and salt).Skin Discolouration-Pure, unsealed copper can sometimes leave a harmless green mark on your skin due to the metal reacting with your body chemistry. This is completely safe and washes off easily with soap and water. If you want to prevent it, choose pieces sealed with a clear protective lacquer, or apply a thin layer of clear nail polish to the inner side of the ring or bracelet.

Brass

  • Keep it dry: Remove brass jewellery before showering, swimming, or exercising, as moisture accelerates tarnishing.
  • Avoid chemicals: Apply perfumes, lotions, and hairsprays before putting on your brass pieces.
  • Store properly: When not in use, keep your brass in an airtight pouch or a zip-lock bag with an anti-tarnish strip to slow down oxidation
  • Just like copper, unsealed brass can sometimes leave a harmless green mark on your skin when it reacts with body oils. If you want to prevent this altogether, you can apply a thin coat of clear nail polish or a professional metal sealer (like ProtectaClear) to the parts of the jewellery that touch your skin.

Fashion Jewellery

To keep your fashion jewellery looking new, you must protect it from moisture, chemicals, and air.

Unlike fine jewellery made of solid gold or platinum, fashion (or costume) jewellery is typically made of plated metals, brass, acrylic, or glass, meaning it cannot    be polished back to life if the outer layer wears away.

Water & Sweat--Moisture causes base metals to rust, turn green, or peel.-Take off pieces before showering, swimming, working out, or washing your hand's

Chemicals- Hand sanitisers, soaps, and pools containing chlorine strip away plating instantly. Remove rings before using sanitiser, and wait a full minute for it to dry before putting them back on.

Sleeping in Pieces-Friction causes chains to snap, prongs to bend, and delicate plating to rub off.Keep a small trinket dish on your bedside table so you remember to take them off before sleep.
